SCAD and the National Black Arts Festival present newly commissioned work by Carrie Mae Weems 
Contemporary artist Carrie Mae Weems explores the human rights movement in the United States and abroad in an upcoming multimedia installation titled, "Constructing History: A Requiem to Mark the Moment." The exhibition, commissioned by the Savannah College of Art and Design and the National Black Arts Festival, will be on display July 1-Aug. 31 at the ACA Gallery of SCAD, 1280 Peachtree St., Atlanta, Ga., July 9-Aug. 28 at Galerie Pfriem, Rue Trophime, Lacoste, France, and Oct. 2-Nov. 21 at Red Gallery, 201 E. Broughton St., Savannah, Ga. A reception for the artist will take place in Atlanta July 15, 6-8 p.m.

Hong Kong trip lands jobs for SCAD industrial design student
Following 10 weeks of collaboration with VTech, a world leader in cordless telephones and electronic learning products, one student was hired and two others were granted internships as a result of design presentations.

SCAD interior design graduate student wins IIDA Student Sustainable Design Competition
Meghan Woodcock, an interior design M.F.A. candidate at the Savannah College of Art and Design, was awarded Best of Competition for the 2008 Student Sustainable Design Competition, sponsored by the International Interior Design Association. Woodcock will receive $1,000 and a complimentary IIDA student membership for the 2008-09 school year for her "Disaster Relief Transportable Schools" design.

Saks Fifth Avenue to display garments by SCAD fashion students
Twenty-six fashion students from SCAD will see their senior projects go from the SCAD fashion show runway to retail display May 30-June 16 at Saks Fifth Avenue in Phipps Plaza, Atlanta.
