05/06/2008 SCAD announces new faculty and staff appointments SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Savannah College of Art and Design announces new faculty and staff appointments for the college's summer quarter and 2008-09 academic year. SCAD exists to prepare talented students for professional careers, emphasizing learning through individual attention in a positively oriented university environment.
Sharon Dwyer joins SCAD as chief of staff in the president's office, where she will oversee the daily operations of the office and act as a liaison for the president on student, faculty and staff matters. Dwyer brings 20 years of executive management experience in the financial industry with both Dun & Bradstreet Corporation and Moody's Investors Service, Inc. She has worked in operations, marketing and chief of staff roles with responsibilities for strategic planning, communications, market research and performance management, and was most recently vice president for fundamental business management and ratings relationship manager at Moody's. Dwyer earned an M.B.A. in general management from Rutgers University and a B.A. degree in history and political science from University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Anthony Dammicci has been appointed vice president for marketing. He joins SCAD from Dallas, Texas, where he served as chief executive officer for Encircle Marketing, a division of the Omnicom Group. Under the supervision of the senior vice president for admission and communications, Dammicci will be responsible for strengthening the visibility, reputation and branding of SCAD. Dammicci also will be responsible for establishing and implementing strategic marketing plans and programs to achieve the college's mission and vision.
Dammicci has more than 20 years of experience in advertising and marketing, working for such nationally recognized agencies as Bozell & Jacobs, PGC Advertising, TracyLocke, Inc. and most recently Encircle Marketing. His clients have included Samsung Mobile, Del Monte, Hitachi, Pepsi, Pizza Hut and Sara Lee. Dammicci has held several executive positions within the Omnicom Group, including president and COO. He attended Omnicom's graduate level senior management training program at Babson College and earned a B.A. in journalism and advertising from the University of Oklahoma.
Jeffery Boortz will serve as chair of the broadcast design and motion graphics department beginning summer quarter 2008. Boortz is an award-winning creative director and designer with more than 20 years of experience creating broadcast design work for networks across the globe. Most recently, he served as founder, president and chief executive officer of Concrete Pictures in Bala Cynwd, Pa., and as co-founder and president of 3-Ring Circus in Los Angeles, Calif. Clients have included the Travel Channel, Military Channel, Science Channel, ESPN, Canal Fox (Latin America), 13th Street (France) and ANX (Asia). Boortz has received six Emmy Award nominations for primetime network series main title design and is the recipient of two Emmys for his work with NBC for the 1991 Olympics. He earned an M.A. in film production from the University of Southern California and a B.F.A. degree in graphic design from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Robert Mond has been promoted to chair of the production design department. Mond has more than 30 years of experience as an award-winning designer, production manager and technical director in academic and professional theater environments. Mond has served as a professor at SCAD since 2006, introducing students to lighting design, production design, stage management and scenographic techniques through classroom and stage work. Prior to joining SCAD, Mond taught at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, DeSales University, The American University and Moorhead State University. His professional experience includes work with the Nebraska Repertory Theatre, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Bristol Riverside Theatre and Tulsa Ballet Theatre. Mond earned an M.F.A. degree in design from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an M.A. degree in design and technology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a B.A. in theater from the University of Dubuque.
John Lowe has been promoted to dean of the School of Communication Arts effective fall quarter 2008. Lowe has taught sequential art at SCAD since 2001, becoming chair of the department in 2002. He has served as an illustrator for such respected clients as DC Comics, Marvel Comics and Archie Comics, and his illustrations have been published by Dark Horse Comics, the Cartoon Network and Warner Brothers Animation. Lowe earned an M.F.A. degree in sequential art with summa cum laude honors from SCAD. He also earned a B.F.A. degree in drawing with magna cum laude honors from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
David Allan Duncan will serve as chair of the college's sequential art program. Prior to joining SCAD in 2005, Duncan taught visual communications with a concentration in comics and sequential art at the University of Arizona. He published a daily comic strip for several years while in Arizona, and he has exhibited work across the United States. Duncan earned an M.F.A. degree in illustration from the University of Arizona and a B.F.A. degree in studio art from the University of Montevallo.
Named one of Kaplan's "25 cutting-edge schools with an eye toward the future," the Savannah College of Art and Design is a private, nonprofit, accredited institution with locations in Atlanta and Savannah, Ga., and in Lacoste, France. Undergraduate and graduate degree programs also are offered online through SCAD-eLearning. The college offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Architecture, Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Fine Arts, and Master of Urban Design degrees.
