The new Savannah College of Art and Design athletics center is scheduled to be located adjacent to the Ronald C. Waranch Equestrian Center on the Telfair Plantation, an 80-acre site located across the Talmadge Memorial Bridge from Savannah on Highway 17 in South Carolina.

The new athletics center will be capable of hosting local, state, regional and national events, athletic or non-athletic in nature. If needed, the center may be utilized for many of SCAD's own premier events.

SCAD currently uses facilities throughout the city of Savannah: the Civic Center, Chatham County Aquatic Center, Grayson Stadium, Allen E. Paulson Softball Complex, Savannah High School, Bacon Park Tennis Courts, St. Paul’s Activity Center, Chatham County Soccer Complex and Forsyth Park.

Athletic Center 2 drawingIn the yet-to-be-named center, athletic competition, education and recreation will be integrated under one roof. For the first time, SCAD's athletics coaches and staff, now divided among different college buildings, will be able to communicate and work together with ease.

"Our sports teams have proven themselves as outstanding programs and now need facilities to support them," Senior Vice President Glenn E. Wallace Jr. said. "Both the athletics center and the Ronald C. Waranch Equestrian Center give our students opportunities to participate in a college-level athletics program typically only available to students attending liberal arts universities." The new structure will allow SCAD athletics programs and wellness endeavors to be truly integrated, not only as programs but as vital components of the educational and community life at the college.
