Proficiency is required in reading and translation of French, Italian, Spanish or German. Students can meet this requirement by passing the language exam administered by the department. Students also must pass a comprehensive architectural history exam as part of the degree requirement.

Kelly Bressler, a graduate student in architectural history, had her paoer "Success at Arlington: The Rise and Demise of the Freedman's Village" accepted for presentation at the 2009 annual meeting of the Southeast Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians in October in Jackson, Mississippi.
