Electives (10*/25 hours)

Total course of study 180*/225 hours

Consult your faculty adviser in selecting elective courses. One of these must be a 700-level technology elective. All 700-level electives must be taken during the final 45 credit hours.

Students may not progress into the design studio sequence until they have successfully completed DSGN 225 Architectural Fundamentals III, and then only upon faculty recommendation and approval by the chair of the department and the dean of the School of Building Arts.

During the fourth-year studio sequence and upon completion of 150 credit hours, students wishing to proceed with the final 45 credit hours of the professional M.Arch. program must apply to the architecture department for admission into the fifth year of the professional M.Arch. program and successfully complete a portfolio review before proceeding. All coursework for the first four years of the program must be completed prior to entering the fifth year of the program (700-level courses). In addition, all coursework must be completed for any secondary, double major or minor program prior to entering the fifth year of the professional M.Arch. program.

*
The course of study for the B.F.A. in architecture consists of 180 credit hours and includes all the required and elective courses. Successful candidates for the professional M.Arch. degree must complete the entire program of 225 credit hours shown here.

Otherwise qualified applicants who have SAT math scores lower than 540, have ACT math scores lower than 23, or are unable to demonstrate an aptitude for the study of mathematics and science, may be admitted to the architecture program on a provisional basis. One condition stipulates that the student must complete MATH 101 with a grade of 2.0 or higher, and satisfactorily complete MATH 201 and PHYS 201 with a grade of 2.0 or higher in order to pursue the professional M.Arch. degree. The credit hours earned in MATH 101 may be applied as an undergraduate elective toward the 225 credit hours required for the M.Arch. degree.

Consult the general education and mathematics competency requirements in this catalog.

§ Undergraduate students must pass all architecture design studio courses with a grade of “C” or better.
