"Behind the Cels: Selections from SCAD’s Don Bluth Collection"
Gallery See, SCAD-Atlanta, 1600 Peachtree St., Atlanta, Ga.
The exhibitions department and Jen Library special collections department present "Behind the Cels: Selections from SCAD's Don Bluth Collection." Donated to the university in 2005, this collection documents Don Bluth's and Gary Goldman's animated features and video game collaborations from 1979 to 2000. "Behind the Cels" consists of drawings, cels, storyboards, concept art, backgrounds and photographs from their iconic oeuvre. This exhibition was organized in conjunction with the Society for Animation Studies Conference at SCAD-Atlanta, July 10-12, 2009. This exhibition is free and open to the public. Works from Bluth's unrealized project, "Little Blue Whale," are concurrently on view in the artists books room of the ACA Library of SCAD. Read the press release.

"Mercy, Patience and Destiny: The Women of Whitfield Lovell's Tableaux"
ACA Gallery of SCAD, Woodruff Arts Center, 1280 Peachtree St., Atlanta, Ga.
For over a decade, Whitfield Lovell has created assemblages, or tableaux, that evoke the memory and heritage of African-American lives once lived. This exhibition showcases Lovell's portrayal of African-American women at a time when their efforts were a driving force for change in domestic and civic life. The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, is presented by SCAD in celebration of the National Black Arts Festival. Yi-Hsin Tzeng Painting Exhibition: "Flow"

The exhibitions department presents "Flow," an exhibition of two unique series by graduate painting student Yi-Hsin Tzeng. In the first, three-dimensional box paintings provide the ground on which to juxtapose figure drawings with fluid-like "flows" of color, suggesting various and ambiguous modes of desire. In the second series, created during Tzeng's Fall 2008 New York City Workspace Opportunity, paint and foam flow amidst gritty remnants of the urban environment. Ivy Hall Young Writers Workshop

Saturday, July 25, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Sunday, July 26, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
SCAD and Ivy Hall, SCAD's cultural arts and writing center, announce the first annual Young Writers Workshop for high school students. Developed and taught by SCAD-Atlanta faculty, the workshop is designed to help rising juniors and seniors develop their skills as creative, descriptive writers. Participants will explore the role of stories in the 21st century and write short autobiographical pieces. They also will examine writing opportunities related to new media. All Atlanta-area high school students entering the 11th and 12th grades in Fall 2009 are invited to apply for admission to the workshop. Fifteen students will be chosen based on the strength of their applications and writing samples.
