Safety and Security

SCAD-Atlanta security The Savannah College of Art and Design strives to provide students, faculty and staff with a safe college environment. Security staff are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round. College security officers, along with Midtown Blue, provide 24-hour patrols around SCAD-Atlanta facilities and work closely with the residence life staff to educate students about personal safety.

A staff greeter or security officer is posted in all academic buildings and residence halls for students' safety. Students, faculty and staff are required to present ID in order to gain admittance to SCAD-Atlanta facilities, and a record is kept of all visitors. SCAD buildings are locked each evening. In addition, checks are completed nightly on exterior doors and interior public areas of buildings, as well as throughout the college grounds.

An on-demand shuttle service to and from SCAD-Atlanta and the residence halls is available at night and during inclement weather. SCAD-Atlanta security may be reached 24 hours a day at 404.253.3472.

SCAD Card/Access Control

Every student enrolled at SCAD is issued a student identification card. This card not only identifies the student but also authorizes him or her to access SCAD facilities and utilize equipment. Students are required to have their identification cards with them at all times and to present the cards to college officials upon request.

Access

When entering residence halls and college buildings or facilities, all students are asked to show their identification cards. This system is a safeguard for both the student and the SCAD community as it prevents unauthorized access to college facilities. Violations of this policy are referred to and dealt with by the dean of students.

Visitors

All visitors to residence halls must be signed in and out by a registered student at the building security desk. Visitors must present a form of photo identification to be held at the security desk until they leave the facility.

Local Ordinances

Think before you act! All citizens of Atlanta and visitors to the city must abide by local and state ordinances. There are many ordinances that may be of particular interest to Savannah College of Art and Design students. Students are encouraged to pay close attention to them; what a student may perceive as a harmless act (e.g., riding bicycles on certain sidewalks, skateboarding in prohibited areas) may be punishable by law.

Safety Awareness Program

This program, designed to educate students on moving about the college area in a safe manner, is offered at the beginning of each quarter or upon request. The program provides students with knowledge, resources and basic measures of self-protection, and helps increase their awareness of their surroundings.
