Sean Wehrli, Davison, Mich., is a senior in broadcast design and motion graphics.
Savannah College of Art and Design broadcast design and motion graphics students Sean Wehrli and Masahiro Wakabayashi submitted their commercial concept for the Chevy Super Bowl College Ad Challenge. Their spot was selected as one of the top five finalists out of more than 820 registrants.

The ad challenge was announced in early September and allowed college students the chance to compete for an opportunity to participate in the creative process of developing one of Chevrolet’s Super Bowl ads to be aired during the game Feb. 4.

  • 9/8/06 — Chevrolet kicked off the contest giving college students a chance to compete for the opportunity to have their idea for a Chevy ad produced for the 2007 Super Bowl – one of the most coveted advertising spots on television with about 140 million viewers.

  • 10/24/06 — Wehrli and Wakabayashi presented their Chevy ad challenge concept to classmates, professor Duff Yong and broadcast design and motion graphics chair Jill Taffet. To the students’ surprise they also presented their concept to a production crew from CBS who informed the team that they made it to the final five.

  • 10/27/06 — The SCAD duo and Yong flew to Detroit, Mich., where they pitched and presented their ideas to Chevrolet and ad agency executives.

  • 01/22/07 — Reality webisodes begin on www.cbs.com/chevy about the finalists' weekend in Detroit. There are eight webisodes total which will post regularly through Monday, Feb. 5 following the Super Bowl and will remain online until mid-February.

  • 02/02/07 — CBS Entertainment show — The Chevy Super Bowl College Ad Challenge goes "primetime" in CBS's annual "Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials 2007" special. The winning team of the Chevy College Ad Challenge will be revealed during the special and viewers will be able to see more behind the scenes footage of the competition. Chevy is the exclusive automotive sponsor of the special.

  • 02/3/07 — The CBS special on the making of a Super Bowl commercial is scheduled to air. The special will feature the five teams competing in the Chevy Super Bowl College Ad Challenge. The CBS Early Show will also be covering the ad challenge.

  • 02/04/07 — Super Bowl XLI airs on CBS at 6 p.m. EST from Dolphin Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
