Students from approximately 80 countries attend SCAD to take advantage of the unique learning environment offered. Full-time advisers assist with the transition of international students into American culture and the college environment.
All students are encouraged to participate in the activities planned by the Intercultural Student Association, formed to promote cross-cultural contact and communication among students and the community.
Orientation for new international students takes place at the beginning of each quarter and is coordinated by ISSO advisers who address questions concerning academics, college life, cross-cultural issues, employment, health care, housing, safety, immigration, insurance, scholarships, taxes, travel and personal matters. The advisers inform international students about upcoming events and changes in immigration or visa-related regulations.

"Design Thinking" Exhibition

The exhibitions department presents "Design Thinking," a curated design sales exhibition showcasing the outstanding breadth of SCAD's School of Design faculty, students and alumni. "Design Thinking" will represent designers as artists who are receptive to a synthesis of open source practicality, luxury, conceptual thinking and creativity, and who satisfy our complex needs and stimulate our active curiosity. A reception will take place July 10, 6-8 p.m.The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Whitewater Rafting

The student recreation department and ISSO are sponsoring a rafting trip on the Ocoee River in Tennessee. The Ocoee River was home to the 1996 Summer Olympics kayaking competition and boasts some of the most awesome whitewater rapids east of the Mississippi River. Buses depart at 10 a.m. July 10 from Cafe SCAD and Habersham Hall. The group will arrive at SCAD-Atlanta for an overnight stay. On July 11, 8 a.m., the group will depart SCAD-Atlanta for the Ocoee River. Whitewater rafting will take place around 11 a.m. Upon completion of the 2.5-hour rafting trip, the group will return to SCAD-Atlanta for a second night's stay. The $45 trip cost includes round-trip transportation, lodging, rafting fees and a picnic lunch July 11. All other meals and incidentals are on your own. There is a limit of 15 participants. Sign up early by sending an e-mail or calling 912.525.7304. Paying the full amount in advance guarantees your slot. Refunds permitted only if we are able to fill your slot.
