David Allan Duncan has been teaching sequential art, comics history and drawing since 2003. He began his teaching career at the University of Arizona in Tucson, where he was working on his comic strip "Gobnobble," which has since developed into an ongoing series of comic stories.

A veteran of the comic book industry, John Lowe served as chair of the sequential art department 2003-08. He wrote the book "Working Methods" and has worked as an illustrator for all of the major American comic book publishers. In addition to his teaching and administrative responsibilities he is the monthly inker on the "Betty" comic book for Archie Comics and works on freelance assignments for DC Comics and Devil's Due Publications. He has served as editor for three sequential art anthologies by SCAD students and alumni - "Senses," "Science" and "Discovered."

Tom Lyle, Faculty, 2006

Self-taught as a comic book artist, Tom Lyle has been a practicing professional in that field for 21 years. With work published by Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Dark Horse Comics and many others, Lyle has a strong working knowledge of the comic book industry. He also did a series of articles for the Silver Bullet Comics Web site about breaking into the industry.

Awards and recognition:
  • Created the “Scarlet Spider” costume design for Marvel Comics
  • Co-created (with writer Chuck Dixon) the spoiler for DC Comics’ Batman Universe
  • Award winning short filmmaker of “Bubbas in the Mist” (Best Comedy, 1996 Pegasys Awards) and “Dougie’s Room” (Best Dramatic Short, 2002 Silver Sprocket Film Festival)

Pat Quinn

Working his way from fan to professional and professor, Pat Quinn always has kept one foot in the world of education and the other in the world(s) of comics. His work has been published by DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Moonstone Books and Devils Due Publishing. His series of articles about perspective drawing for Sketch Magazine were collected as the book "Pat Quinn's Basic Perspective for Comics and Illustration," which is used in many classrooms. The academic director of communication arts at SCAD-Atlanta, Quinn earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Towson State University in art education and a Master of Fine Arts from SCAD in sequential art.

Roy Richardson
Atlanta

Roy Richardson brings 25 years of freelance sequential art experience to the SCAD classroom. A Georgia native, he moved to New York in 1983 to pursue a career as a comic book writer and artist. He has worked for major publishers on such titles as "Captain America," "Iron Man," "The Flash," "Star Wars" and his own co-creation for Marvel Comics, "Tomorrow Knights," which was recently adapted into a role-playing game by Z-Man Games. He now works in collaboration with his wife, June Brigman, inking, lettering and coloring the "Brenda Starr" comic strip.

Nolan Woodard
Atlanta

Nolan Woodard began his career in high-end advertising as a retoucher, illustrator, storyboard artist and studio artist for Wieden+Kennedy, He has a solid grasp of photo compositing, color correction, storytelling and digital pre-press, and has completed extensive work on accounts for Nike, Miller Brewing Company, Electronic Arts, Starbucks and others, and continues to do so as a freelance illustrator. In comics, he has worked for Dark Horse, Oni Press and Moonstone Books as an artist and colorist. He shares these combined experiences with SCAD students, helping them to apply professional practices in pre-press and printing to sequential art.
